How Reiki Can Help Anxiety and Depression

Reiki is a form of energy medicine that has been used for thousands of years. A reiki practitioner is able to channel their energy, and that of the universe, into the body of the patient.

When done according to the sound reiki principles, this can help to restore balance in the patient’s mind and body. This allows the patients to experience improved healing, more balanced mental health, and can improve their overall outlook on life.

In this article, I’m going to discuss how reiki can be a valuable tool for treating anxiety and depression.

How Reiki Works for Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are two very different conditions that are often experienced together.

Externally, people who are anxious or depressed may seem fidgety, sad, unsure of themselves, unmotivated, or irritable. Internally, they often feel agitated, discontent, and aren’t able to fully enjoy their lives.

Energetically, things also look a bit different for people with anxiety and depression.

A clairvoyant (someone who is able to see energies that the rest of us cannot) would be able to identify imbalances, blockages, or excessive flow in the energetic body of their patients. These imbalances can stop or redirect a natural flow of energy throughout the body. This can manifest as anxiety or depression, among other things.

While a clairvoyant may be able to see these issues, a reiki practitioner is actually able to help heal them. Whether or not they can actually see the energy in the same way that a clairvoyant can is irrelevant - a reiki practitioner is able to feel these imbalances, and can thus transmit their own energy to help restore balance in the areas that are leading to anxiety or depression.

Benefits of Reiki

People who struggle with anxiety and depression often report immense improvements to their condition after they have received reiki. Reiki can be helpful for:

● Bringing about a state of peace and serenity in people who are anxious and agitated

● Helping people find the motivation and energy to seek out therapy

● Improving a person’s outlook on life, encouraging them to make positive changes that can further heal their body

● Helping patients to identify or address underlying traumas that may be contributing to depression or anxiety

As you can see, there are plenty of ways that reiki can help someone who is struggling with depression. The nature of the healing that you will experience depends on your particular battle with anxiety or depression, and not everyone will experience the same type of healing.

Fortunately, the reiki practitioner will be able to guide the session so that it doesn’t get overwhelming. If a session brings up trauma or repressed memories, try not to fret: this is part of the healing process, and is a necessary difficulty for many people on the road to recovery.

Many reiki practitioners are also well-equipped to help people work through traumas that may arise. It may be wise to seek the assistance of a counselor or therapist, however, if these issues prove too much for either of you.


Reiki can be very useful for helping people manage anxiety and depression. When used in conjunction with therapy, reiki can significantly improve a depressed person’s quality of life.
