What is Reiki?
Reiki is a system of natural healing developed by Dr Mikau Usui in 1922. Studying as a Buddhist monk, Mikau Usui went on a personal journey of self- discovery. He spent 21 days fasting, meditating and searching for enlightenment in a cave on Mount Kurama in Japan. On the 21st day, Usui naturally received his healing abilities which later went on to become the basis for the Reiki System of Natural Healing, also seeing ancient sanskrit symbols to be used alongside the healing process.
Today Reiki is used by many individuals and practitioners around the world. Reiki literally means universal healing energy and has many similar associations to chi, prana, spirit, source energy and ki; although they are not one and the same.
Those who are attuned to the Reiki system for healing, which can only be carried out by a master or practitioner who is also attuned, pass on their gifts through opening themselves up as channels. The beautiful gift of reiki is thus passed on from teacher to student. This process is known as a Reiki Attunement and there are many different Reiki Attunement Levels.
Reiki can be used to restore health, wholeness and harmony to every living thing. You can use it on plants, fruits and the food you consume, animals, other people and self. Universal life force energy essentially flows through every living thing, yet reiki enhances this natural force and further amplifies your own powers.
